Jowar Rava Breakfast Bowl

Creamy jowar porridge bowl topped with banana, blueberries, almonds and honey

Warm creamy jowar base under roasted almonds, sliced banana, blueberries and a swirl of honey. Ten minutes, and it holds you till lunch.

Ingredients

From the TrooFoodz pantry

Fresh

  • Milk or almond milk 2 cups
  • Banana, sliced 1
  • Blueberries ½ cup
  • Almonds, roasted and chopped 3 tbsp
  • Pumpkin seeds 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon powder ¼ tsp
  • Honey 2 tsp
  • Salt a pinch

Method

  1. Toast the rava

Dry-toast the Sprouted Jowar Rava in the pan for two minutes until it smells warm and biscuity. This is the difference between a nutty bowl and a bland one.

  2. Add the liquid

Pour in the milk with a pinch of salt, whisking as you go so no lumps form around the grain.

  3. Simmer low

Cook on a low flame for eight minutes, stirring often. It should thicken to a loose porridge that still moves in the pan.

  4. Spice it

Stir in the cinnamon at the end so its aroma does not cook away, and check the consistency — it tightens as it cools.

  5. Build the bowl

Spoon into bowls and arrange banana, blueberries, almonds and pumpkin seeds in sections rather than mixed through.

  6. Finish sweet

Drizzle over the honey just before serving so it stays glossy on the surface.

Why this works

Toasting the grain dry before liquid goes in develops nutty flavour compounds and helps each particle stay distinct as it swells. Jowar's neutral flavour is an asset here — it lets the fruit and cinnamon lead. The pinch of salt is what makes the sweetness read as balanced rather than flat.
